History

TBJJ.tv is a revolutionary online training system created by world renowned 3rd degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Mauricio "Tinguinha" Mariano together with Fightlife. Tinguinha operates his main school and TBJJ headquarters in Southern California and continues to develop and nurture international affiliate schools. His school is visited throughout the year by BJJ practitioners from all over the world. Tinguinha has been teaching seminars around the globe and now, for the first time, he is bringing his amazing teaching skills online so everyone can learn any technique, from anywhere, at any time, at their own pace. Tinguinha was born in February 13th, 1975 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the age of 11 and was promoted to the black belt by Carlos Gracie, Jr. in 1996 in Brazil at the age of 21. Tinguinha has achieved many titles in all major tournaments in Brazil and the United States. Professor Tinguinha has been training BJJ over 22 years and teaching over 15 years. Today he is well known and respected worldwide in the BJJ community and he is the owner and head instructor of the Tinguinha BJJ Academy in Yorba Linda, California. He teaches BJJ seminars all around the world. Mauricio is one of the pioneers in the expansion of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu art, teaching the system as well as contributing to the growth of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu around the world. Now, for the first time, Tinguinha brings his amazing teaching skills online in this revolutionary training system so that anyone can learn any technique from anywhere, at any time and at their own pace. Mike Brown
Mike Brown

Mike Brown is Tinguinha’s first student in Orange County. He competed in several BJJ tournaments and dedicated his time to the values of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, studying every aspect of this martial art. Besides having his own successful business, Mike is an instructor and competition team coach at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy and an important part of the TBJJ Academy's success. He is the most senior TBJJ Academy black belt after Tinguinha. At the school he shares his vast knowledge and experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and contributes to the TBJJ Academy's growth.

Luis
Luis "Speedy" Gonzalez

Luis, always a dedicated student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, committed to driving 3 and a half hours to train at the Tinguinha BJJ Academy every step of the way, from blue belt to black belt. With his dedication and talent Luis became one of the best fighters in his category, winning medals in tournaments like the Pan-American and World Championships. Currently, Luis is doing his transition to MMA and he earned a winning record of 3 and 1. As a testament of his dedication to BJJ, he continues to travel to Southern California regularly to continue his learning path with Tinguinha. Luis is now teaching his skills to his own students at the Speedy Gonzalez BJJ school in Hanford and Tulare, California.

Kenric Toliver
Kenric Toliver
Black Belt

Kenric Toliver has been a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner for over 10 years. He has participated in many tournaments in the US and in Brazil, placing in most of them. His love for martial arts started at a very young age. In high school, he became involved in wrestling from his sophomore to senior year. He later discovered the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial art while overseas in the Navy. He met Tinguinha for the first time while in Japan in 1997. Tinguinha still lived in Brazil but was teaching in Japan for a short period and their paths crossed again when Tinguinha moved to the US. Kenric, already a purple belt in BJJ, started training with Professor Tinguinha and was promoted to the black belt later in 2008. While in Japan, Kenric achieved his brown belt in Judo. Now he is one of the instructors at the Tinguinha BJJ Main Academy in Yorba Linda, California.

Gustavo Machado is the Head Instructor and proprietor of the Gustavo Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu School as well as the President and founder of the Virginia Beach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation. He has dedicated his life to teaching and spreading the understanding of the techniques that he has mastered from his teachers in Brazil. There are many outstanding students at his academy in Virginia Beach, with a few embarking upon careers of their own as instructors. Gustavo has also teamed up with other academies along the East Coast to create a Gustavo Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Team Association. Made up of both children and adults, Gustavo Machado Team has become both nationally and internationally renowned with many champions on the mat.

Roberto "Gordo" Correa

Roberto "Gordo" Correa is a legendary Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 4th Degree black belt and the inventor of the half guard. He is a BJJ Black Belt World Champion and has won every major BJJ title – many of them multiple times. Having trained with the Gracie Family all his life, Gordo is considered to be one of the Top 5 BJJ Masters in Brazil. He has produced many BJJ World Champions including BJJ Black Belt World Champion Marcio “Pe de Pano” Cruz, current Super Heavyweight BJJ Black Belt Champion Antonio Braga Neto, BJJ World Champion Leandro Thomas da Silva, and many others. He has also produced many MMA fighters such as Strikeforce Champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral, UFC fighter Rafael dos Anjos and Marcio Cruz. Gordo is the Head Instructor at Evolve Mixed Martial Arts in Brazil.

Alexandre
Alexandre "Soca" Carneiro

Soca began training at Gracie Barra with Jean Jacques Machado when he was 15 years old. Jean Jacques showed him the most effective techniques, which helped establish the foundation for Soca's amazing BJJ skills. When Jean Jacques moved to the United States, Soca -- a purple belt at the time -- began training with Carlos Gracie, Jr. at the Gracie Barra main academy in Brazil. Carlos awarded Soca his black belt in 1994. Since then Soca has won many prestigious titles such as Abu Dhabi Champion, Pan-Am Champion, and Brazilian National Champion.
Soca is considered one of the most technical grappling fighters in the world. He now lives in the US and runs a prestigious BJJ Academy in Long Island, New York, the Soca Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy where he dedicates most of his time to teaching his vast knowledge to his students.

Rafael
Rafael "Gordinho" Correa
3rd Degree Black Belt

Rafael is a Mundials BJJ Black Belt World Champion and is responsible for the course curriculum of the Renzo Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Program at Evolve Mixed Martial Arts and brings over 25 years of experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Rafael grew up in Brazil near to the Gracies and has been a close friend of Renzo's for over 30 years.  Rafael has fought in hundreds of BJJ fights and was the winner of the 1998 Mundials World Championships in the Black Belt Division. He is also a 4 time National Champion of Brazil (1994-1997) where he was voted the most technical fighter and also had the fastest submission (12 seconds). He is a runner-up in ADCC Brazil and has competed in and won numerous other tournaments around the world. Rafael has taught for many years in Brazil and the US and is currently an Instructor at the Evolve Mixed Martial Arts in Singapore.  Prior to Evolve, he was the most senior Black Belt instructor (after Renzo Gracie) at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York. Rafael was also the Program Director at the school.  He is a sought-after instructor on the seminar circuit around the world. Rafael holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Carlos Gracie Jr. Rafael is originally from Brazil.

3rd degree black belt Sandro “Batata” Santiago, the first black belt under master Roberto “Gordo” Correa, has been training for over 19 years. Batata also trained wrestling for over 2 years at Stanford University under Coach Chris Horpel. Batata currently teaches in Santa Cruz, CA and is always competing in the largest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments. When he’s not busy training, competing or teaching, Batata travels around the world passing on his vast knowledge of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Antonio Braga Neto is a World Champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with 16 years of experience. Braga is the 2008 Mundials Super Heavyweight Black Belt World Champion and he is also the 2008 No Gi World Champion. He is the only person to have ever won the Mundials World Championships at the blue, purple, brown and black belt levels. Braga is also a Brazilian Nationals Champion and is also a professional MMA fighter with fights in Brazil and Japan. Braga is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Roberto “Gordo” Correa, a black belt legend in Brazil and the inventor of the half guard. Braga is an Instructor at Evolve Martial Arts in Brazil.

Julio Echeverria is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Roberto "Gordo" Correa. He has been training for over 12 years, mostly in Brazil with half guard master Roberto “Gordo” Correa. Since his move to the US, Julio has been training with Sandro “Batata” Santiago. Now Julio Echeverria and his friend and teacher, Sandro “Batata” Santiago are teaching together at the new Sandro Batata BJJ in Santa Cruz, CA.

Adam Shahir Kayoom is a black belt under Ricardo Liborio (American Top Team) and has been teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 1998. He has trained under Bruno Panno as well as Ze Mario Sperry from 1995 to 2001. He holds numerous titles in BJJ, Tae Kwon Do and Muay Thai. Originally from Australia and Malaysia, Adam is presently teaching and fighting out of Bangkok, Thailand and is the head BJJ instructor at EMAC Thailand.
